Individual Rights in Health and Social Care Essay

Learning aims covered Learning Aim A: Investigate the rights of individuals using health and social care services Learning Aim B: Examine the responsibilities of employers and employees in upholding service users’ rights in health and social care Scenario You are about to go on work experience at a training centre for young adults with learning disabilities. Some of the young adults also have mental ill health and require medication. Task 1 We all have rights As part of your preparation for work experience, you have decided to produce an information pack on the rights of the young adults who attend the centre. Your information pack should contain:  a summary of the rights of the individuals who use the centre an explanation of how the rights of individuals can be upheld within the centre; you should refer to three examples here an assessment of the benefits and potential  difficulties of upholding the rights of individuals within the centre, referring to your chosen examples a description of how the Human Rights Act and the Mental Health Act 1983 may be used to uphold the rights of young adults who attend the centre, referring to three examples. Your presentation must include: a description of how each volunteer can maximise the safety of the young adults who attend the centre, giving four practical ways an explanation of why it is important to assess potential risks when planning care for the young adults an evaluation of the importance of risk assessment when  planning care, referring to three examples a description of how each young adult’s right to confidentiality is protected within the centre an explanation of why the centre protects the confidentiality of the young adults, referring to the Data Protection Act 1998, and giving three examples a justification of three occasions when it would be necessary to breach confidentiality in the training centre.
